Consultation
Navigating the health system is confusing and there are isolating mental and physical challenges that come with any medical diagnosis. It’s common that clients are unaware of agencies and services relevant to their needs which results in undue hardship. If you or a loved one require assistance in exploring health care, benefits programs, or housing, KFR Counselling can help you assess what is available, safe, and acceptable to you.
Long term care assessment is a complicated journey; misunderstanding the process or information that must be shared can result in denial of placement. KFR Counselling provides experienced guidance and support before, during, or after assessment so you have a sense of direction wherever you find yourself along the way.
Other consultation services include health or government systems negotiation, advocacy, paperwork, applications, problem solving regarding aging in place, and cognitive assessments such as Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) or Montréal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA).
Counselling
KFR Counselling offers a holistic approach encompassing mind, body, and spirit with the belief that everyone deserves a plan tailored to their circumstances. A client centred, nonjudgmental, trauma informed environment is maintained so that clients feel safe and can heal in the best way possible. Counselling methods include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, and Solutions Focused Therapy.
Specialties
KFR Counselling specializes in major life transitions, professional or caregiver burnout, and issues related to aging. However, your counselling or consultation needs don’t have to be limited to these categories.

Each new phase of life, happy or sad, brings unanticipated hopes and fears. Are you starting a family, recently divorced, wishing to reinvent yourself, facing an empty nest, retiring, or moving from the family home ? If so, having someone to talk to can make a meaningful a difference.

Growing older can bring joy with anticipated time for family, friends, hobbies, and travel. It can also come with sudden realizations, grief, loss, social isolation, health issues, and cognitive or mobility changes. While it’s human nature to avoid thinking about these aspects it’s important to acknowledge the emotional and practical considerations while you still have time to affect the outcome. The right planning, adaptations, and creative solutions can ensure you enjoy the good that comes with the unexpected.

Are you feeling dread at the thought of work ? Increasingly, workers are sustaining moral injuries from an inability to provide services according to their professional standards and ethics. Finding yourself overwhelmed, crying suddenly, frustrated, or more short tempered than usual are signs of a toxic environment or unreasonable workload. Unsustainable working conditions require some form of intervention to deconstruct the dynamics and catalyze change.

Finding resources can be daunting when your time is dedicated to other people. Caregivers may have limited support, believe they should not impose on others, or feel guilt about meeting their own needs. It’s common to delay reaching out until there is a crisis. Don’t make this mistake when someone is depending on you ; KFR Counselling can help you care for yourself so you can continue to care for others.
